And Now For Something a Little Different

A good way to get the creative juices flowing is to begin with current activities or interests, whether they are high-energy pursuits like tennis or sea kayaking, or quieter ones, such as Thai cooking or opera. Pick one activity.  Now, get creative and identify three ways you can do this activity in a new way.

For example, if you like to hike, pick a trail or mountain or nature preserve within an hour of your home that you have never been to before. Or design a 10-mile, full-day “hike” around your city or local area, including stops at friends’ houses, a fun restaurant or picnic spot, or other points of interest. Or investigate a ropes course or a rock-climbing wall.

If you like the theatre, take an acting class, go to a venue you have never been to before, or organize a reading of a favorite short play and assign each of your friends a part.  Give yourself permission to do something a little different.
